General process of the online identification function

Normally the online identification function runs like this:

  1. The owner of the ID card wants to use a web service for which an online identification is necessary.

  2. The AusweisApp2 checks the security requirements for performing the online identification and displays the certificate and the requested data of the provider.

  3. By entering the PIN the owner of the ID card confirms the transfer of the data.

Attention

A connected and installed card reader is required for the identification process. You can see the current status of the connected card readers under Install Card Readers and Pairing the AusweisApp2 with a smartphone. In the section No card reader found you will find help if you have problems with your card reader.
