Unblock ID card PIN using the PUK

If you enter the wrong ID card PIN three times in a row, the ID card PIN is blocked. You can unblock it in the Change my (Transport) PIN section.

  1. Enter the Change my (Transport) PIN section.

  2. Click on “Six-digit PIN”.

  3. Insert your card if it is not already inserted.

  4. Enter your ten-digit unblocking number (PUK). You can find it in the letter you received from the issuing authority of your ID card (see PIN letter of Bundesdruckerei).

  5. Confirm the dialog after you have entered the PUK.

Attention

PUK counter

Please note that the PUK features a counter. You can use your PUK 10 times. After that, you have to contact the authority responsible for issuing your identification document to generate a new PIN, hence unblocking your ID card. Alternatively, you can order a PIN reset letter.
