What needs to be done when the PIN is not accepted?¶

If you do not enter the correct PIN, the ID card will refuse to establish a connection (see the following figures).

After the first false entry, you have two attempts left to enter your correct PIN. After the second false entry you will be prompted to enter your Card Access Number (CAN) prior to the third attempt of PIN entry.

Attention

Prior to using your ID card for the online identification, you have to set a personalized 6-digit PIN.

Hint

I have forgotten my PIN. What can I do now?

The PUK PUK you received with your PIN letter of Bundesdruckerei does not allow to reset your PIN. In case you have forgotten your PIN, you must either contact the authority responsible for issuing your identification document to generate a new online identification PIN or order a PIN reset letter.
