Notes on the Use of USB Card Readers with Windows Terminal Servers
In general, all card readers listed here with support for Windows can also be used on Windows terminal servers. Unfortunately, however, connection problems may occur for reasons such as unstable (Windows) drivers. If you encounter any problems, please contact the card reader manufacturer or Microsoft.
Notes on the Purchase and Use of USB Card Readers
We advise you to obtain information directly from the manufacturer or a specialized retailer before purchasing a card reader. When buying a card reader, always make sure that the device is explicitly suitable for reading the ID card. If you search the Internet for a suitable reader, you will also see card readers for chip cards, smart cards and other purposes. In many cases, such models do not support the eID card.
Once purchased, simply connect the USB card reader to your laptop. Usually, the card reader should be recognized after a few seconds and the necessary drivers should be installed automatically. In AusweisApp, you can then check in the settings under "USB card reader" whether the device is correctly connected. There you can also install any missing drivers.
