The welcome page of the AusweisApp takes you to functions such as PIN management, the provider list, and the option of displaying the data stored on your ID card. In the mobile app, you can also check whether your device can read out the eID card and whether the eID function of your ID card is activated.

Before each readout process, the ID app displays the provider's authorisation certificate. It provides information about which data will be read from your ID card and to whom it will be transmitted. The certificate is a government authorisation that the provider applies for from the Federal Administrative Office, thereby committing to comply with data protection and security requirements.

In PIN management, you have the possibility to change your 5-digit transport PIN to a self-selected, 6-digit PIN once and thereby unlock the eID function. You can also change an existing 6-digit PIN. You can obtain a new PIN for your online ID card from your local ID card authority.

If your device does not support NFC, you can use your smartphone as a card reader. Connect it to your computer or tablet using the pairing code displayed. After the initial pairing, confirm the ‘Allow connection’ button on your smartphone to use it as a card reader.

Use the "Check device and ID card" feature to find out whether your smartphone meets all the technical requirements for reading out the ID card and whether the eID function of your ID card is activated.
